Offer more classes, develop our community cafe and offer more affordable food and community building opportunities
The project will build on Copleston's successful Cooking on a Budget classes where volunteers have been learning to cook with local experienced chefs - including Eats Shoots and Leaves (Vegetarian) and Nandine (Kurdish) - and preparing meals for our popular, warm and welcoming Community Cafe.
With the help of local chefs and food outlets, our volunteer-supported Community Cafe offers culturally diverse healthy meals in a welcoming environment. The meals are donation-based and free to those who need.
Beneficiaries include older people and others who feel they would benefit from a healthy, affordable or free meal, and/or eating with others.
The funding will support us to:
Run more ‘Cooking on a Budget' sessions for volunteers from which food will be provided to our community café customers in a warm friendly space.
Develop our commitment to offering choice, dignity, diversity and affordability in a welcoming and inclusive space where people can cook and eat together
Bring our community together in a safe warm space
Develop new partnerships with local businesses and opportunities for volunteers
Develop our philosophy of food sharing via our 'help-yourself' shelf, Community Cafe and working with South London Urban Growers (SLUG) on food growing projects
