Discover London through neighbourhood stories, community walks and the River Thames – a new cultural guide shaped by people and places.
London is one of the most visited cities in the world. Millions of people come to see its landmarks, museums and famous attractions. Yet much of the city’s everyday cultural life remains hidden behind these well-known places.
Cool London Guide was created to explore a different side of the city — the stories of neighbourhoods, the people who live and work in them, and the landscapes that shape London’s identity.
The project is an independent digital cultural guide that looks beyond traditional tourism. Instead of focusing only on iconic attractions, it explores local communities, creative voices and overlooked places across the city.
One of the central threads of the project is the River Thames. The river has shaped London for centuries, connecting neighbourhoods, cultures and histories. Through storytelling and exploration, Cool London Guide follows the Thames from the centre of the city towards the estuary, discovering how the river continues to influence the life of the capital.
The project is built around three main activities.
Neighbourhood Stories
A series of articles and interviews exploring the cultural identity of different areas of London. These stories will highlight local creatives, community spaces and everyday urban culture.
Community Walks
Small group walks across London neighbourhoods and riverside areas. These walks invite people to rediscover the city through conversation, observation and shared exploration.
The Thames Journey
A storytelling project following the river from central London towards the estuary, documenting its cultural, environmental and historical landscapes.
Together these activities aim to create a living cultural guide shaped by people and places, rather than a traditional travel guide.
About the team
The project is led by Angelo Calvi, founder of Angelo Calvi & Partners Ltd and creator of the Cool London Guide platform.
Angelo has worked for many years across digital media, cultural storytelling and international projects connecting culture, tourism and community engagement.
The project will also involve writers, photographers and creative contributors who will help document neighbourhood stories and urban landscapes across London.
Community partners, including organisations such as Natural Neighbours, will help connect the project with local communities and support activities such as community walks.
Our vision
The vision behind Cool London Guide is simple.
To create a cultural platform that helps people discover London through its neighbourhoods, communities and river landscapes.
Rather than presenting the city only through famous landmarks, the guide aims to highlight everyday cultural life — the creative energy of neighbourhoods, the diversity of local voices and the relationship between the city and the Thames.
Over time, the project hopes to grow into a wider cultural resource where stories from across London can be shared and explored.
How the funds will be used
The funds raised through this campaign will support the development of the next phase of Cool London Guide.
This includes:
• producing new neighbourhood stories and interviews
• working with writers and photographers to document local culture
• organising community walks across London neighbourhoods
• exploring and documenting the landscapes of the River Thames
• developing the digital platform and new content
Every contribution will help expand the project and allow more stories about London’s communities and river landscapes to be shared.
Why support this project?
London is a city of extraordinary diversity, creativity and history. But many of its most interesting stories are found not in famous landmarks, but in everyday places.
Cool London Guide aims to bring these stories to light.
By supporting this campaign, you will help create a platform that celebrates the people, neighbourhoods and landscapes that make London unique.
