Aim: A platform to encourage communities to dedicate 3 sq yards of their garden to wildlife, boosting biodiversity & improve their mental health
We’re a small but passionate team dedicated to making a real difference for wildlife and people’s wellbeing- right in our own back gardens. The idea is simple but powerful: encourage communities across the UK to dedicate just three square yards of their garden to wildlife-friendly plants or to simply let it go wild. These little patches become vital mini nature reserves, supporting local biodiversity and offering people a chance to reconnect with the natural world.
This project began in Felixstowe and has already inspired over 1,500 households to join in, which adds up to an area the size of a football pitch. It’s incredible to see how small individual actions can create something much bigger when brought together. Notably, Sir David Attenborough has shown his support for the initiative, recognising how essential it is to bring nature back into people’s everyday lives.
Beyond helping wildlife, these spaces have a huge impact on mental health. Many participants report feeling calmer, more connected, and less stressed by spending time nurturing or simply enjoying their wild corners. In today’s busy and often disconnected world, these small nature patches offer a breath of fresh air-literally and figuratively.
Our vision goes further- we want people to ‘claim their town’. We’ll provide communities with resources and advice to help them create their own community nature reserve within their local area. The online directory we’re developing will host these local reserves, giving each town its own dedicated space on the website where they can update and promote their projects, share progress, and inspire others to join.
To make this happen, we’re seeking to raise £5,000. This funding will allow us to design and launch the directory, provide ongoing support for communities, and promote the movement widely so it can grow stronger and reach even more people.
With your support, we can help wildlife flourish and improve people’s wellbeing, one small patch at a time. Together, we can create a greener, healthier, and happier future-town by town.
