Who are we?
We have been operating a community day centre for a little over 20 years. We rely entirely on donations from the public. We offer services to people in our local area that may be suffering from homelessness, mental health issues, poverty, isolation, and/or addiction. We are a hub, where outside agencies come to assist our service users in the best way possible. We work closely with partner agencies such as 'We are with you', YMCA, our local council, street wardens, community policing, mental health charity 'Second Step', and 'Keysteps', just to name a few. We are starting to get our local college' support to run some courses in budgeting, basic cooking skills, food hygiene, tenancy courses and computer skills.
Community impact
At present we have a first floor centre which is inaccessible to wheelchair users. We have the ground floor premises but we need around £90,000 to renovate it into a working day centre. This would make our service even better than it is now and we will be able to help more of our local community.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The cost-of-living crisis is affecting us all. Our service users are struggling and are in desperate need of our help. We give them a place to go during the day where they can keep warm, have a good meal, hot showers and clean clothes. This assistance saves them from using their own heating, electricity, water and food, which they are struggling to top up weekly.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We would spend the money on necessities. This could include, water, electricity, heating/gas, tea, coffee, sugar and healthy food items to give out nutritious meals.
