We're still collecting donations

On the 22nd March 2023 we'd raised £1,020 with 8 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
The Smith Brothers are 4 Liverpudlian brothers from an extremely talented boxing family. They have achieved success at the highest level and simply want to give back to the local community that gave them so much and continues to support them year after year
As we work alongside other community projects we really do appreciate all of your support.
Research states cooking is good for mental health as it is an act of patience, mindfulness, an outlet for communication and helps raise self-esteem making participants feel good about themselves by doing something positive for themselves and their family. Week-on-week our facilitators will engage physically with the attendees asking for ideas for following weeks, basing the workshops around what is needed by the community, allowing them to build their own project with our assistance in the background. Giving them a purpose, confidence, and a sense of community assisting in better mental health space.
We will provide ideas and peer support within sessions, providing recipes and physically cooking a healthy meal on a budget which they can then taste. We will introduce ways of healthy eating and how this can be done on a budget, also providing ideas to grow their own herbs or vegetables and show how this can be incorporated into sessions to create sustainability.
We will create weekly meal plans that can allow people to be aware of how much they are spending on food and can also show how to shop online, avoiding shopping in the aisle when hungry, therefore avoiding overspending.
We also work with local community health groups, giving advice on diets and the health implications, in a safe and nonintrusive environment. There will be refreshments available to ensure it is a relaxed environment to assist with retention figures
As a charity, we are approached many times by people asking for help. The cost of living crisis has affected everyone and we are running sessions where people come for ideas to cook healthy, we donate them the items they need to do this at home. By giving them the tools to help in these tough times, it allows them to benefit in any ways, both physically and mentally.
People are facing financial crisis and relying on foodbanks more. This has a huge impact on mental wellbeing, also physical health. People are isolated and suffering, they have to chose between food and heating.
We are teaching them to eat a healthy diet sharing recipes, donating slow cookers etc so they cook healthy food for their families on a budget.
Running workshops weekly, showing how to cook a meal on a budget. We are also part of Fareshare donated “Best Before” food which we distribute to the community.
We will also engage chefs, local health workers to assist in explaining exactly what “good nutrition” means so the change in their diets and cooking styles are permanent.
This is not only a way to save money, eat better, reduce obesity, but also how to reduce food waste which has an impact directly on the environment.
We need money to pay for cooking sessions, volunteer expenses, slow cookers and other energy efficient items so that we can donate them to the community members that need them the most. These sessions have now got up to 60 weekly attendees that need us to continue with this for the foreseeable future, they are in a warm safe place, and we are offering an alternative to a food bank which is fantastic and so many appreciate it as it relieves the stigma they feel by attending a food bank.
