Greenham Common. The most significant action in the past 40 years, using songs and drama the play examines passions that took women there.
Greenham Common Peace Camp
BEING AT GREENHAM
Bridport women who went there write "I felt like I had found my tribe and this was what I was meant to be doing in my life, rebelling and fighting for change, striving for peace" and "..we arrived at a muddy venue. There was a powerful sense of purpose. All I felt I could offer, apart from being there, was a plait of my hair that I cut and tied to the fence."
This striking image from a tapestry by Lyn Barlow captures the powerful response to these issues that the women at Greenham felt and that the play evokes.
WHY NOW?
40 years ago this play was produced on the London stage, it asked "what would make an ordinary woman go to Greenham?" Now it is time to revisit it, because although the experience of going and living there was very powerful, many people under 50 have never heard of it. This production, by Friends of West Dorset, offers an opportunity to reawaken the sense of purpose and engagement in collective action to the cast and the audience, but also has workshops for over 14s where they explore their own willingness to take action for green issues.

PRODUCTION COSTS
Despite being wonderfully supported and in co-production with the Bridport Arts Centre, Bridport Youth and Community Centre and the Lyric Theatre producing a large scale community production involving over 40 people is a costly venture. Printing scripts, producing marketing material of flyers and posters, rehearsal space, fabric for costumes and buying paint and wood and furniture for the set all have a price.

PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT
A community production calls upon many members of the community to offer their time and skills to produce the play at the highest possible standard. With funds raised from the community we can employ some of the remarkable professionals living in Bridport to take the production to a higher standard. Imaginative set design, skilled and supportive vocal training for the 30 women playing the Greenham women, proper stage management to ensure the production runs smoothly, excellent lighting and sound design all require payment. With your help we will be able to ensure these generous and talented professionals are paid for their contribution.
