We would love to invest in some more stock to bring an even bigger range of beautiful products to inspire our crafting community.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

We need your help because we are at risk of closure. Covid restrictions have closed our shop and stopped our classes. Additionally we had to move shop mid-pandemic, and we now are paying rent for the first time.

WHO WE ARE

1610975960_img_7136.jpg

Stitch! Crafts and Classes is a social enterprise based in Palmers Green, established in May 2019 by three local women, in response to the lack of a sewing and crafting community hub in the local area. Our vision for Stitch! is to create a community for people through enjoying craft classes and workshops.

We are a modern shop supplying haberdashery, wool, fabric and craft kits, as well as supplies for quilting, knitting, crochet and embroidery.

We run regular workshops (many continuing on Zoom) which specialise in:

  • sewing - learning to use a sewing machine for total beginners
  • dressmaking for improvers
  • quilting and patchwork sewing
  • crochet
  • knitting
  • macramé
  • tatting
  • embroidery
  • kids crafts
  • free stitching circles and knit and natter

OUR PASSION

We are passionate about people using creative skills such as sewing, making and crafting, which are life skills that improve people’s quality of life - to make your own clothes and learn to repair items.

Working together on creative projects increases general well being and mental health. Our customers include people who feel socially isolated, are disabled, are elderly or have mental health issues who take part in our activities and relax and blossom.

We are passionate about bridging the gap among the growing number of people who have little or no ‘repair skills’ so they can make sustainable, environmentally-friendly fashion choices. We love recycling and our childrens' workshops reflect this in the materials we use and what we make. We are proud to lead a Reduce, Reuse, Refashion project working with the London Community Foundation @iwill_campaign.The children have been enthusiastic, creative, eager to learn and are fantastic, upcycling champions. Our project continues into summer ’21.

We teach skills and provide a space for creativity. We provide a variety of high quality courses at a range of prices and aim to keep them as affordable as possible. Our shop welcomes anyone wanting to drop in and work on their projects in a supportive, creative atmosphere. Stitch’s ethos is to bring people together. We are inclusive, welcoming and make learning fun.

ENGAGING WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

We make opportunities to involve our local community. We are very proud to have participated in several successful community projects:

- we made laundry bags for NHS staff

- we offered free crafting sessions on Zoom for children during the first lockdown

- we knitted hats for the local homeless and for premature babies for the North Middlesex Premature Baby unit at our Stitching Circle

- we worked in partnership with a designer from Wood Green, Kaan Amjad, to sew blankets for the homeless

- we knitted poppies for local church St. Johns Palmers Green British Legion Poppy Appeal

- we ran a children's workshop at the Clean Up Green Lanes community day

- we made sewing bags for post-operative equipment for breast cancer patients (Kings Oak hospital)

- we ran workshops for the volunteer-led Vintage Flea in Palmers Green.

Stitch! provides low cost retail space for local practitioners to teach their skills and to exhibit and sell to the local community.

We encourage volunteers to take an active part in our business and all our staff are from the local community.

RAISING FUNDS AND WHAT THEY WILL BE USED FOR

Covid 19 has hit our small community business very hard. If you would like to help you can donate or buy a gift voucher redeemable against stock purchases from Stitch! If you support us in this campaign the Mayor of London will part match the funds raised through the campaign, which is an amazing opportunity for a small community interest company.

This fund will be used in two ways:

- to help support the ongoing costs of running a business

- and to improve our website, buy IT kit to improve our on-line shop.

Thank you for your support!

We ask project owners to honour their rewards wherever possible but please note that all pledges are donations and there is no guarantee that you will receive any rewards from the project owner. Please see our Terms of Use for more information regarding rewards for pledges.
