We are raising money to support our Community Fridge, helping people to stretch their budgets in these difficult times.
The chance to be part of the Aviva Cost of Living Boost would give us a chance to help even more people by reducing food insecurity and helping families stretch their budgets over this winter as the cost of living crisis is forcing people to choose between heat or eat. The extra funding would help support people using the Letham Community Fridge4All and Community Food shares through the worst of the winter and by providing a little extra during the festive season, through our Christmas Meal Gift and New Year Take Away initiatives.
Our Community Fridge4All Project helps stops good food from going to waste because our fantastic volunteers collect surplus fresh produce from supermarkets every night. This good food is given away for free in our Community Fridge4All in Letham and the Muirton Community Food Share. We also share what we collect nightly with other local community groups and food shares, so everyone gets a share of what is available.
We also offer a kind of social supermarket, where people can buy a selection of tinned and dried foods, toiletries, and household essentials. Everything costs 20p and you can spend up to a maximum of £2.00 per day and every person can choose what they want to buy or take. Any money collected goes towards running our project and buying stock for the shelves. Our amazing partners, Giraffe and People With a Mission Ministries, provide us with freshly cooked nutritious ready meals, which people can pick up for free.
All of this helps people to stretch their budgets, as well as saving good food going to waste and to landfill, and anyone can use our service, without a referral, as many times a week as they need. We are hoping this helps people manage their income and stops them from making difficult decisions about eating or heating and keeps them from having to use payday loans to get through the month.
