To install solar panels on the roof of St Margaret's Collier Street School, to free up some of the school budget currently spent on energy.
by Friends of Collier Street School in Tonbridge, England, United Kingdom
We are seeking donations towards our solar project: we aim to install solar panels on the roof of our school in order to cut electricity bills and make our school more environmentally friendly.
The Friends of Collier Street School supports the school in delivering exceptional education and enriching the experience of all pupils who attend.
Under the leadership of our head teacher, Mr Ryan, the school has consistently gone above and beyond to try to stretch its core offerings, to nurture and inspire its pupils. However, costs have been rising over the years, to the point where some additional services are at risk of being curtailed. The school has already identified a few key areas in which FoCSS can assist in alleviating budget issues, such as increased donations towards coach costs and forest school.
But we have come up with some even larger plans for this year. The installation of solar panels on the school roof would enable the school to divert some of the money it currently spends on energy back towards its core aim of educating our children. This is a big money target: roughly £25,000 for this year.
It seems like a hefty total, but we think it pays to be ambitious for our children. The current annual energy bill for the school is £12,000. By installing 31 panels on the school, we could effect an annual saving of £3,500, funds which could be repurposed towards the education of children instead.
By installing solar panels on the school roof, we would be enabling the school community to move towards a greener form of energy use. We would also be playing a crucial role in educating the next generation about the risks and challenges of climate change – as well as illustrating practically some of the possible solutions.
This continues the work that the school already carries out in educating the children about climate change and will boost their existing green ventures – eco club, gardening club, forest school, all of which teach the children to nurture and treasure the environment.
We are driven by the ambition to bring joy, equality and positivity to our children’s educational environment, showing them what is possible when we work together.
We have always been extremely lucky with the incredible support we have enjoyed from the school community – whether it comes in the form of donations, volunteering at events, or simply attending them. We welcome and are grateful for all these levels of involvement.
Thank you again for your support and donations!
