Help us to raise the web development fees needed to complete the 2nd part of our new social network for the construction industry!
At the moment the first part of the site is live. We are now raising the web development fees to add more functionality to the site, as well as upgrade some of the existing functionality. Below is a breakdown of where the money raised in this crowdfunder will go!
Hi, my name is Alex and I graduated in Architectural Technology last year at the University of Northampton. Covid-19 has affected everyone, however students and those new to the construction industry have been affected the most.
I'm passionate about helping those in the construction industry so decided to set up Collabed in November 2020 to support new and existing members of the construction industry. We've decided to evolve the idea and set up a social network specific for the industry.
The community was brought together on LinkedIn where our page has a large following - LinkedIn page. The first part of the website is live - www.collabed.co.uk this crowdfunder is to complete the second part of the website!

- Within the construction industry there are hundreds of journals and magazines that provide information about the industry. This information is then posted on their websites as well as the usual social media platforms. Currently there are several companies in this industry that are full of information and resources but lack a network or active community. There is also a gap of resources/support for those who have finished education and start their working lives in the industry. Covid-19 has made this issue a lot worse and has clearly shown where support is needed for the industry.
- CPD’s and learning should be free for everyone to access. It sometimes makes sense for in person events before Covid-19 as a room needed to be hired. There has been lots of cases where online webinars have been charging people to attend. We believe that students and graduates in the construction industry should not be paying to access online resources.
- Networking within the industry used to be limited to in person meeting. Covid-19 has proven that the internet can be a very useful tool. You can talk to anyone in the world within 2 minutes, this should be utilised more, even after the pandemic has finished. A social network for a specific industry will be very useful to assist networking around the world.
- Searching for new jobs in the construction industry can be difficult. Either the job adverts for your industry is mixed in with others, or the advert is posted on a magazine which limits communication and makes it difficult to ask questions about.
- The objective of Collabed is to create a social network made up of companies, university students, graduates and those searching for work in the construction and architecture industries.
- Our aim is to organise the information and resources that companies in the industry produce. As the website is specific to the construction industry, all the information you will see is relevant to you. With open discussions taking place, we take on board what the community wants and find an active way to address them.
- Members are connected via an online experience which is essential in a time like this during Covid-19. It allows you to reach a wider network across many countries, have a larger database and a better source of knowledge.
- By hosting CPD’s for companies we can bridge the gap between companies and their target audience, gathering the audience in one place and having a better reach.
- We host competitions and webinars to help showcase work and expose students and graduates to changes in the industry.
- The website will be completely free for all users and companies to use.
- To keep members up-to-date we send weekly newsletters and monthly brochures. Not only that, information and news about the industry are posted on our LinkedIn page.
- We will assist both those who are looking for work and those who are self-employed and searching for projects.
- We currently support Architects Benevolent Society and will also looking to further our support charities in the near future.
www.collabed.co.uk at the moment has the basic elements of a social network. The current website includes the following:
- Home page – signing up/logging in
- Social feed – this allows to post text/images that other members of the construction industry will see.
- Profile page – Allows you to showcase yourself, your work and job title, allow people to connect with you.
- Company page – Allows for companies in the construction industry to set up a page to advertise their business, all for free. Includes link to website, contact details and much more.
- Job adverts – See what jobs are available in the construction industry, apply directly can send CV’s and Portfolios directly to the company.
This crowdfunder is to raise money for the next update of the social network. The difficult bit has been done and we can now add more useful pages to the site. The next update will include:
- Home page – more features
- Profile page – more features
- Social feed – more features
- Direct messaging added
- Freelancing page added – allows for individuals to advise themselves as open for freelance work. This will allow you to be approachable by companies, you will be able to advertise what kind of work you will be willing to do.
- CV page – upload your CVs which will go out to those recruiting for job roles that you have decided in the area you want to look at.
- CPD’s/Webinars/Events page – Allows you to organise these events for those in the construction industry. Make your events reach more people!
- Podcast page – Upload your podcasts to reach more people in the construction industry.
- Competitions – competitions will be hosted here, cash prizes can be won and it’s a good way of showcasing your work to potential employers.
- Question forum – post questions about software, cv advice and just about anything in the forums. The network will help and answer!
- Support/help page – allows you to contact us if you need help with anything.
- Collabed credit – earn credit by inviting people to the network, this can be used on the website in the near future.
*Credit can not be withdrawn from your account at this time. This credit can be used on the website in the future.
**If the raffle winners are outside of the UK, a prize may be replaced or cash equivalent given instead
