Your support makes a difference
Help us build a proper neighbourhood pub for the community in Childwall, South Liverpool, with independent drinks and something for everyone
We are the founders of Colbier, a small, independently owned brewery in Bootle. We have been making progressive cask and keg beer since early 2024, showcasing traditional English styles alongside modern and hop-forward specials, with continental and American influences.

The Project
The Common Time will be our first venue, as we have no facilities to build a taproom at our present brewery site. We have chosen the suburb of Childwall for the micropub as there are a distinct lack of independent pubs that serve as a meeting place for the locals of Childwall and surrounding neighbourhoods – there is actually not a single one within a mile radius of the Fiveways roundabout!
We are taking on a former shop unit and converting it into a comfortable, traditional-style micropub with a cosy, homely feel to it. The pub will be built around genuinely inclusive hospitality – you don’t even need to be into your real ales or crafty beers to come and enjoy a drink here. We will have a wide range of quality wines, spirit, and non-alcoholic drinks available, stocking as many small independent suppliers as possible alongside a decent selection of guest and Colbier beers. The pub will be family-friendly (until 7pm), dog friendly, and will have a focus on conversation and meeting people.
At a time when so many are struggling with loneliness, The Common Time will be a welcoming, friendly place to spend time for people from all walks of life. We plan to host social, community events and clubs, such as running or walking groups, crochet nights, language cafés – wherever our locals’ interests lie, let us know and we’ll try to help out.
How can you help?
Converting a shop unit comes with high costs, and we aren’t backed by any major brewery, nor will we be tied to any big distribution companies. This is because staying independent and having the choice to support other independents is so incredibly vital to us.
This is where you come in. You can help build this pub. Be a part of it from day one. Help shape it and make it somewhere everyone can enjoy.
From replacing the old shop front and installing an accessible downstairs toilet, to securing planning permission, alcohol licences, PRS and building control, costs can quickly stack up. There is also a bar to build from scratch, the cellar to install, plus signage, lighting, fridges, furniture… and a scruffy back yard to clean up into a cosy, comfortable beer garden. Every pound pledged will go towards covering these direct expenses, and we’ll be doing as much of the work as we can ourselves to keep costs as low as we can.
