Aim

A coming-of-age, fantasy, body horror short film about a teenage girl's struggles with her identity as an Indian immigrant in the UK.

Hi! I'm Aarohi and I'm a filmmaker and student at UCL. Coconut will be the second short film I've directed and the first that I've written! I've been working on this script for two years and this film is absolutely a passion project. I wanted to write something semi-autobiographical about a feeling that I think will be relatable to a lot of people - Maya, the main character, is a 16 year old girl, and second-generation Indian immigrant living in London, who is struggling with trying to reconcile both sides of her cultural identity. Feeling lost, desperate to belong, and confused, are feelings that not only all immigrants, children of immigrants, and people of colour in this country can relate to, but also anyone who's ever been 16 years old. This is a story by and for immigrants, primarily, as my wonderful crew are primarily immigrants and POC too. It's something for our community to share, but it's not only for us - Coconut is a story everyone can relate to and understand. With the rise of anti-immigrant rhetoric in this country, now is the time to tell these stories that can bring people together. To bring this story to life in the way it deserves, we need your financial support. The money raised will go towards payments and reimbursements for cast and crew, buying props, costume, and makeup, renting equipment, and entering the film in film festivals to make sure it gets to the right audience. We will be so grateful for any contribution you can make towards our goal!
