To help people build practical skills, improve financial confidence and access opportunities for work, income and greater independence.
CMT Skills & Financial Wellbeing Hub
Creating skills, confidence and opportunities
Caribbean Movement Trust (CMT) is a UK charity committed to supporting individuals and communities through education, training, poverty relief, healthcare projects and opportunities that can help people become more self-sufficient.
Through our work, we have seen that having access to education or information is only one part of the picture. People also need practical skills, confidence, connections and opportunities to turn what they learn into meaningful progress.
That is why we want to develop the CMT Skills & Financial Wellbeing Hub.
The project will create a welcoming community-focused space where people can access practical learning, guidance, encouragement and connections that can help them move towards greater financial confidence and independence.
Why this matters
For many people, financial pressure is not simply about how much money they earn. It can also be connected to a lack of access to information, digital skills, employment opportunities, professional networks, confidence and practical support.
Someone may have the ability to work but not know where to start.
Someone may have a useful skill but lack the confidence or connections to turn it into an opportunity.
Someone may want to improve their financial situation but not know where to find reliable guidance.
These challenges can be particularly difficult for people from low-income backgrounds and communities where access to opportunities and professional networks may be limited.
CMT wants to help address this gap by bringing learning, support and opportunity closer to the people who need it.
What the project will provide
The CMT Skills & Financial Wellbeing Hub will focus on practical activities that can help participants build confidence and improve their ability to access opportunities.
Depending on participants' needs, activities will include:
The emphasis will be on practical learning rather than simply providing information.
We want participants to leave sessions with something they can use, whether that is a stronger CV, a new digital skill, greater confidence, a useful connection, knowledge of an opportunity or a clearer understanding of their next step.
Creating opportunity through community
We believe that opportunity is often created through relationships.
A person may learn a new skill, but meeting someone who can introduce them to an employer, mentor them or point them towards another opportunity can make that learning much more valuable.
The Hub will therefore encourage participants to connect with one another, local organisations, professionals, employers, trainers and other community partners.
Our aim is to create an environment where people can learn from each other, share experiences and build relationships that continue beyond an individual session.
Who we want to support
The project will focus on people in local communities who would benefit from additional support to develop their skills, confidence and financial wellbeing.
This will include people facing financial pressure, people looking for employment or better opportunities, individuals interested in developing practical or digital skills, people considering self-employment, and members of communities who may have limited access to professional networks and opportunities.
We will particularly seek to reach people who may not normally have access to paid training, professional development or similar support.
What we want to achieve
Through the project, we want participants to:
We will use participant registrations, attendance records, feedback and simple progress measures to understand what participants gain from the project and where further support may be needed.
Why CMT?
CMT's wider charitable work has always focused on creating opportunities that can help individuals and communities move towards a more sustainable future.
Our work with education and youth development has shown us the importance of giving people the tools and support they need to progress.
The Skills & Financial Wellbeing Hub allows us to build on that approach within our UK community work.
We do not want to create a project that simply tells people what they should do.
We want to create opportunities for people to learn, connect, ask questions, develop practical skills and take their next step with greater confidence.
How your support will help
Funds raised through this Crowdfunder will help CMT establish and deliver the Skills & Financial Wellbeing Hub.
Funding will contribute towards the practical costs of delivering sessions, including training and workshop resources, facilitators, venue and equipment costs, outreach and participant engagement, digital resources, volunteer support, monitoring and other essential project costs.
Every contribution will help us create more opportunities for people who may otherwise struggle to access this type of support.
Building something that lasts
Our ambition is not simply to run a short-term programme.
We want to use this project to build relationships with community organisations, trainers, employers, mentors and other partners who can continue creating opportunities for participants.
As the Hub develops, we hope to create a stronger community network where people can continue learning, sharing knowledge and supporting one another.
Financial wellbeing is not achieved overnight.
Skills development is not a one-time event.
And opportunity becomes more meaningful when people have the confidence and connections to make use of it.
With the support of our community, CMT wants to create a space where people can build all three.
Skills. Confidence. Connection. Opportunity.
That is the purpose of the CMT Skills & Financial Wellbeing Hub.
