Aim

We’re trying to prove the existence of a medieval castle called Eddlewood by dating pottery that we've recovered through our own excavation.

A local Archaeology Group with 72 members all volunteers who have been organising Community Archaeology Projects in Chatelherault Country Park, Hamilton. We have been able to excavate a possible Iron Age Promontory fort at Eddlewood where the site is overlain by the possible remains of a Castle.

We are keen to make it as easy as possible for anyone interested to become involved no matter their income. We are not only helping to record the historic environment we are actively helping people gain new skills and confidence, make friends, get fit and healthy and therefore we are contributing to the wellbeing of the community.

We have recovered 53 pieces of possible medieval pottery  through carrying out a community archaeology excavation. If we could get these checked by an expert it would give us more accurate dating evidence for this site. A leading Scottish pottery expert Derek Hall who is an Archaeologist and Ceramic Specialist has offered to analyse these sherds and produce a report for us for £150.

Any donation towards this cost no matter how small will be gratefully received.
