Aim

Right to Grow in London is campaigning for the use of underused and unused public land for food growing

Hackney Right to Grow and Incredible Edible Lambeth  are raising money for Right to Grow in London to increase our campaigning work with local authorities, with the GLA and more widely to push for the adoption of policies to significantly increase the amount of food growing in London.What could a Right to Grow mean for London?

The Right to Grow is about unlocking access to land for community food growing — turning underused spaces into hubs of wellbeing, resilience, and local action.

It supports residents and groups to:

* Identify and use public land for growing
* Secure space with fair terms and long-term options
* Build stronger, healthier communities through shared growing, cooking, and learning
* Respond to climate and social challenges with local solutions
* Protect and sustain spaces like community gardens for future generations.

All the local campaigns are grassroots, resident-led, and mostly volunteer-run. Which is why we need to fundraise!

Why now?

Southwark and Hackney have shown that councils can adopt the Right to Grow principle. Campaigns are now developing across other parts of London, including Tower Hamlets, Lambeth, Waltham Forest and Newham.

The next three months are an important opportunity to turn this momentum into practical action: supporting local projects, bringing more residents into the movement and helping borough campaigns take their next concrete steps.

Without funding, much of this work will continue to depend on a small number of volunteers. With funding, we can build the coordination and capacity needed to turn individual campaigns into lasting, London-wide change.
