Clifton Down Growing Space: Cultivating a Greener Community Together
Welcome to Clifton Down Growing Space, a community-driven initiative dedicated to transforming the underutilised car park behind Clifton Down Shopping Centre into a thriving green space. Located in the heart of Clifton Down, Bristol, our project seeks to reconnect people with nature, foster a sense of community, and champion sustainable living practices.
Our Vision: In a vibrant city like Bristol, green spaces are more essential than ever. They provide sanctuary for both people and wildlife and play a crucial role in combating urban pollution and climate change. The Clifton Down Growing Space will offer 46 rows of planters, creating an opportunity for the community to come together to learn, share, and grow.
What We’re Building: We are crafting a vibrant growing space where everyone, regardless of age or experience, can get involved. Our plans include:
- Individual Planting Plots: Personal plots for members to cultivate their own vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers.
- Biodiversity Enhancement: Initiatives to support local wildlife, from pollinator-friendly plants to bird boxes and insect hotels.
Why We Need Your Support: To bring this vision to life, we need your help. Your contributions will directly support:
- Acquiring the materials necessary to build and maintain the planters.
- Investing in a sustainable water supply for the growing space.
- Funding the establishment of plot-holder agreements and community guidelines.
To bring our vision to life, we’ve set an ambitious target of £27,000. With your support, we can create a thriving Growing Space that benefits everyone. Here’s how your contributions will make a difference:
Phase 1: £16,000 Goal - Laying the Foundation With £16,000, we can kickstart our project by securing the essentials:
- 20 Individual Planters: These personal growing spaces will allow community members to cultivate their own vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. 1 planter constitutes 5 1x1.2m boxes, we're open to split these into 2 or 3 boxes each.
- Water Installation: A reliable water supply is critical to keeping our garden flourishing. Your support will ensure we can install an efficient water system that serves all planters.
Phase 2: £5,500 Goal - Expanding Our Garden Reaching this next milestone of £5,500 will enable us to grow even further:
- 10 Additional Planters: With these additional planters, we can offer more opportunities for local residents to get involved, increasing community participation and green space.
Final Push: £5,500 Goal - Completing the Vision To reach our ultimate goal of £27,000, we’ll need an additional £5,500. This final phase will allow us to:
- Final 10 Additional Planters: Even more planters for plot holders
- Biodiversity Enhancements: Install more features to support local wildlife, such as bird boxes, insect hotels, and pollinator-friendly plants.
