Clevedon Swimming Club's COVID Appeal

Aim

We are fundraising to keep the club alive and facilitate a safe return to the pools once they reopen for all our members.

The club is run by a team of volunteers who have a keen interest in swimming but also take positive action to encourage our members to be the best they can be; whether that is through swimming, volunteering, skills sharing or raising funds for community charities and projects. Since COVID-19 closed our pools in March of this year our team have been unable to train in the water and all competitions have been cancelled. In this time, we have been truly proud of our members who have been raising money for local charities and trying to keep their fitness levels up for a time we can return to the pool.

As training could not continue we made the decision to stop collecting fees and hoped that the closures of the pools would be short lived.

Unfortunately the opening of swimming pools has been delayed so the closure now has impacted on our ability to run competition events which would have brought incomes of around £5000. Club reserves have ensured that we have been able to pay necessary costs however this is not a long term option for us.

When pools reopen we appreciate that we will have to adapt and this will have further demands on our resources. We want to be equipped for a transition back to the pool and also want to support our families going through tough times.

The money raised will be used to keep our club alive, to retain our coaches, allow for PPE and additional equipment to be purchased. To build a club hardship fund to support members going through financial difficulties, and to get us back to the pool.

It’s fantastic that Sport England and Crowdfunder have now launched a match funding opportunity to help us. In order to access the funds we need to meet our initial target of £5,000 by the end of July. 

We recommend our members donate their July swimming fees to the fund to help us reach our target and access the match funding.

We are a hugely valued part of the North Somerset community and hope that you will contribute to our project.
