Clemo Books - A bookshop for Newquay

Hi, I’m Jaimie. In October 2021 I set up Clemo Books, a pop-up book shop in Newquay, Cornwall, always with the dream of opening a real bookshop.

I grew up in Newquay and went to university in Oxford but sorely missed the Cornish coast. When I moved back home I realised how much our community needed a bookshop - and so I set about creating one. Now after 2 years of Clemo Books pop-ups, author events and book club meet ups we have found a premises - Newquay is going to have a book shop!

Whilst we have secured a home on Newquay’s high street, we just need a bit of help getting it looking ship shape and ready to fair it’s first winter in operation. Join bestselling authors Patrick Gale, Hollie McNish and Wyl Menmuir in supporting Clemo Books’ Crowdfunder today.

Bookshops aren’t just retail spaces, they are a place to host events, enjoy a cup of tea, meet authors and explore thousands of other lives through the minds of talented writers from past and present. Once Clemo Books is up and running here’s what you can expect:

Together I think we can create a bookshop that will become a hub of friendship and literature, curating books and creating community.

Whilst it's exciting that it’s finally happening, it is quite a daunting time of year to open a business in Newquay - that’s why we’re asking people to get involved with our Crowdfunder. We’re hoping to raise enough money to go towards a refit of the space and to help us pay the rent through the first winter period (which can feel like a very long season in a seaside town like Newquay).
