Cleaner Air and Greener Spaces

Aim: West London is identified from London Climate Risk Maps as being in the red zone, we will create Greener Spaces and thus Cleaner Air.

We wish to purchase trees and bring our community together through appropriate marketing of the tree planting events. With the right equipment and people we will encourage local residents from a diverse background to come together and volunteer in harmony to promote cleaner air and greener spaces. Aided by extensive community engagement and participation, we will restore greener spaces for the benefit of the local community and wildlife. 

Outcomes will include improved health and wellbeing, increased community cohesion, learning opportunities and reduced crime. Improved habitat will attract more wildlife numbers and biodiversity. 

Gurseva is a community focused charity based in Hounslow, West London and most of our volunteer base is from here. Ever since 2017 we have successfully planted over 120 trees across London. Most of these tree plantings have taken place in West London (Hanworth Park, Hounslow Heath and Crane Park). We have built excellent links with community groups, Hounslow & Ealing Council and Councillors there. In addition, from the Tree Canopy Cover Map many London Boroughs (https://www.london.gov.uk/programmes-and-strategies/environment-and-climate-change/parks-green-spaces-and-biodiversity/trees-and-woodlands/london-tree-map) are clearly sparsely covered in comparison to other areas. 

This project will directly influence this and improve the tree cover in these areas. All these sites have been identified by local community and the council as needing improvement, working in collaboration with these partners we will bring the local residents together to volunteer on these projects as one. We will organise and run a series (at least five in the year) of tree planting sessions in our neighbourhood, each engaging at least 10 different groups from the community and/or local businesses for volunteering days.
