Help us to provide a fun child-friendly replacement sundial in Petts Wood Recreation Ground & revitalise the Crofton Woods Circular Trail.
The Friends of Crofton and Sparrow Woods, Petts Wood and District Residents Association (PWDRA) and Crofton Residents Association are working together to make the Petts Wood Recreation Ground and surrounding woodland a better place for nature and human users. We also have the support of Crofton Schools, Parkfield Panthers and Busy Bees Pre-school.
Help us to provide an exciting and child-friendly replacement sundial in Petts Wood Recreation Ground – fun to use and showing the area’s link with the introduction of British Summer Time. The sundial will be in thermoplastic paint, and in an easy to find location between the pavilion and the playground. There will be a panel explaining where to stand so that your shadow shows the correct time – winter or summer.
This is one part of the bigger project to revitalise the Crofton Woods Circular Trail – making the place an attractive and interesting way to engage with all that local nature has to offer. Bird and bat boxes are already installed thanks to grant funding, and we will be adding to our two interpretation panels to tell people more about the area.
The new sundial will replace a damaged nearby stone sundial set in grass installed by PWDRA with support from Crofton Infants School some years ago.
