To support people experiencing loneliness, isolation and poverty throughout the winter months and on Christmas day.
Over the past 10 years, we have hosted a Christmas day celebration. Initially we set up the Christmas meal to reach out to homeless people, but we soon realised there was so much more need in the city! By the time Christmas day came we had received referrals for not just the homeless but also people living in isolation, lonely people, families in poverty and many more people in need. So, we opened our doors, and the first event was a great success welcoming around 80 people on the day.
Now 11 years later, we have built partnerships with local agencies and support providers as well as businesses including The Met Quarter Liverpool who each year provide an enormous number of toys and gifts that ensure each child that comes has a present to open on Christmas day.
This year is our 11th year running the meal, and we want this to be our best year yet. Not only will there be a three course meal, gifts, games, entertainment and transport for our guests, but we want to go the extra mile and ensure we can work with the guests in the long term too, helping them throughout the year. Thats why as well as raising enough to put on the meal our goal is to also raise enough to hire a part time project worker who can follow up with our guests and continue to provide ongoing support throughout the year as well as liaise with other organisations to set up additional Christmas meals across the city and beyond!
So often we hear our guests comment on how they had experienced depression and isolation during the lead up to Christmas with the dread of not being able to afford anything, however after being invited and coming along on the day things had changed for them. From coming along shy, nervous, hungry and possibly depressed to leaving with full bellies and a renewed sense of hope! With even some guests commenting on how it was their best Christmas yet!
Our aim is to ensure that nobody has to be alone over the Christmas period, and we truly believe if we work together that can be a reality!
This year, given the current financial climate we are expecting to be busier and more needed than ever before!
Will you join with us this year to help make a massive difference to around 250 people struggling over the Christmas period? It costs us around £20 per head to put on the meal, but every bit of support really does go such a long way.
If you feel you would like to support us but would rather volunteer or have business connections that would donate towards our raffle, then please do get in touch!
Together we can make this a Christmas to remember!
