This has been an incredibly hard year for all us, but some of suffered more than most. As we edge closer to Christmas, there is potentially worse to come, as more people are at risk of losing their livelihoods.
This is usually the happiest time of year for families and communities, but this year will be different - there is no escaping that.
Whilst we cannot make Covid-19 go away, we believe that we can join together to help those in need, taking away at least some of the stress and anxiety that might be affecting them, and perhaps even bring just a little bit of joy to our friends and neighbours.
The idea is simple - raise as much money as possible, to package up and distribute as many Christmas food parcels possible to families in the Bridport and Beaminster area.
Our parcels will not be for emergency provision - our friends at Cupboard Love and Beaminster Food Bank will continue their excellent work supplying these when needed.
Rather, ours will contain all the necessary ingredients for a full Christmas Dinner for a family of four, including:
- A whole Fresh Turkey with all the trimmings, locally sourced
- Cheese, Biscuits and Chutney
- Christmas Pudding and Yule Log
- Enough sweets and chocolates to comfortably last the Christmas period!
We don't want these items to be sacrificed - we want those who need just a little bit of help to be spared the often significant expense of these items.
Our goal is to raise £5000, which will allow us to make enough parcels to reach between 100 and 110 families. All products will be sourced through Bridport Round Table's extensive local network, at cost price wherever possible. Kind donations from local businesses will also help the money go further.
Our stretch target is £10,000 - anything raised over our initial target will either be donated directly to Cupboard Love and Beaminster Food Bank, to help them continue their wonderful work, or distributed to those in need in the form of vouchers for local butchers and greengrocers. This will help us go further to ensure people have enough to get by over the festive period, but will also mean the money is re-invested into the local economy.
Every pound counts! We live in a wonderful part of the world, but people are suffering - our neighbours and friends are suffering, and need your help. Please be generous, and help give a little bit of joy this Christmas.
Thanks from all at Bridport Round Table
P.S. Crowdfunder is making it 100% free for community and charity crowdfunding projects during the coronavirus crisis, so every penny donated will go towards helping us achieve our goal
