Aim: We are working with partners to ensure that Dorset's Ukrainian Refugees are included in our community to try and help brighten their lives.
We know that lots of people need help this year, and we are working with #Dorset Together partners and community groups to ensure that we are supporting some of Dorset’s most vulnerable residents.
Specifically, we are working closely with Dorset’s Ukrainian refugees and elderly residents who live alone to ensure they are supported with:
= a hot meal when needed
= gifts at Christmas
= company and an invitation to join others for a meal at Christmas
= signposting and access to financial, housing and cost-of-living support, to help people become financially independent
= signposting and access to warm hubs
= ensuring people feel supported and imbedded in their community by accessing activities and events appropriate to them to improve well-being
= helping a dedicated Ukrainian community worker to engage with and support refugees across Dorset and encourage and organise social events to encourage networking, sharing resources as well as wellbeing and support
= helping to ensure that Ukrainians feel integrated and supported and that their hosts/sponsors are also connected with local support
= support, connections and referrals to find volunteering, work experience or work placements
= helping vulnerable people access the wide range of community support available
We work hand-in-hand with #HelpANDKindness (https://www.helpandkindness.co.uk/) as a single point of entry for all enquiries for people who need help for a wide range of financial, community, social and well-being issues.
We offer a combination of email and phone enquiries, support and signposting, as well as boots on the ground to help practically both from and army of around 1,200 community volunteers and paid staff.
This programme and support is a legacy from the great work we did throughout the Covid-19 pandemic supporting our local community with shopping, prescriptions, dog walking and welfare call. Over the last 12 months we have worked directly with of vulnerable people across Dorset, and helped directly or signposted almost 1800 enquiries for help.
This boost in funds will ensure that we can further support these vulnerable groups across Christmas and winter, and bring some joy during the festive season.
Thank you for your support!
