Christians Against Poverty Launceston

Aim

Our aim is to raise enough money to kickstart Christians Against Poverty in Launceston - supporting the North Cornwall district.

At Launceston Community Church, our heart is to see people flourish — not just survive.
That’s why we are seeking to launch a local Christians Against Poverty (CAP) centre to serve Launceston and the surrounding area.

As a Cornish town, we know that financial hardship is a reality for many in our community. Limited local support, rising living costs, debt, and isolation mean that people can easily feel trapped and overwhelmed. Too often, money worries don’t exist on their own — they come alongside loneliness, anxiety, poor mental health, or a lack of practical support.

We believe no one should have to face these challenges alone.

Through CAP, we want to walk alongside people as they take steps out of poverty and financial crisis, offering practical help, long-term support, and genuine hope. CAP’s proven debt help and money coaching will enable people to regain control of their finances, but our vision goes further than that.

Alongside the CAP centre, we are committed to supporting people holistically. This may look like:

•  Friendly befriender teams offering regular companionship

• Practical help such as shopping support or attending appointments

• A listening ear for those struggling with loneliness or mental health challenges

• A safe, non-judgemental space where people are known, valued, and supported

Our aim is not just to address financial need, but to help people rise up with dignity, confidence, and renewed hope for the future.

To make this possible, we are seeking to raise £9,000 this year, which will enable us to establish and run a CAP centre in Launceston. Our prayer and long-term vision is to raise this amount annually, ensuring sustainable, ongoing support for those who need it most.
