Who is Thrive Women's Aid?
Thrive Women's Aid is a domestic abuse service supporting women, children and young people throughout Neath Port Talbot, Wales.
What are we Crowdfunding for?
We are crowdfunding to support Children and Young people in crisis.
As we are celebrating our 45th anniversary this year, we are looking to raise £45,000 to implement a specialist Crisis Support service within our Children and Young People's programme.
At present we offer Children and Young People (CYP) structured programmes of support delivered either one to one or in a group setting, directed towards the age range 0-18, unfortunately the waiting lists for this service are increasing. We are concerned that we are not reaching those most vulnerable and at high risk of harm at a time when support is most needed.
Thrive's Adult Crisis programme is a core service in the support we offer, and we would like to replicate the adult crisis role to target young people, focusing on those aged 12-25.
Why is a Children's Crisis worker needed?
Neath Port Talbot is the toughest area in Wales for a girl to grow up. As stated in The State of Girls’ Rights in the UK 2024 (Plan International), Wales scores second for indices of multiple Depravation in the UK, with Neath Port Talbot having been identified as the toughest place in Wales for a girl to grow up, with a score of 72.11 on the index.
This will only be made worse by impending poverty in the local area due to the closing of TATA Steel's blast furnaces. We must be prepared to support vulnerable families, and that's why we need your help!
The money raised will provide a service that is responsive to need in a crisis, by staffing a specialist Children's Crisis Worker.
