Kidscan are dedicated to beating childhood cancer. We are raising money for more research, ensuring we can find safer, targeted treatments
About KidscanAt Kidscan we aim to create a world where every child can survive cancer and go on to live long healthy lives. We use your donations to fund research dedicated to childhood cancer because that’s how we will get there.
In the UK 20% of children diagnosed with cancer will not survive because treatment options are limited. Of thos
e who do survive, 60% will develop life-altering disabilities that can include; hearing loss, infertility, major organ and bone problems and even heart failure. This happens because the treatments used to save their lives also cause lasting damage to children's growing bodies. Known as late-effects these problems can appear long after treatment has finished, are progressive and can even reduce life expectancy.
Our vision is to create a world where every single child diagnosed with cancer can both survive and thrive. That means receiving the right treatments designed for their cancer so they can live the long and healthy lives they deserve without worrying about developing late effects.

Currently in the UK only 3.5% of medical research spend is dedicated to childhood cancer research. Covid19 had a significant impact on the industry; fundraising income has decreased and a significant number of charities have been forced to make cuts to medical research spend, leaving a number of researchers unable to secure funding.
We recognise that research takes time, with new discoveries taking over 10 years to reach the children that need them most. In this time the number of survivors suffering with late effects grows.

We are crowdfunding with the help of the Aviva Community fund, to help fund our student placements. Every year Kidscan look to fund 10 student placements. Our student placement programme enables students to gain valuable experience and time in the laboratories, whilst working alongside our lead researchers. These placements give the students hands on experience of working alongside other researchers as well as being in a working research environment which significantly enhance the student’s employability at the end of their studies. It also allows us to undertake more early-stage research.
