Aim

To strengthen community resilience through interactive sessions that encourage healthier and open conversations about money and well being

WHAT?

Helping Hands is developing a preventative early intervention project designed to support children, young people, and families within schools, community centres, and trusted local settings across Oadby & Wigston, Leicester, and wider Leicestershire.

WHY?

The project responds to the increasing impact of poverty, poor mental health, social isolation, family pressures, and digital exclusion by providing accessible, community-based support before issues escalate into crisis.

By delivering support directly within communities, we aim to create safe and familiar spaces where young people and families feel comfortable engaging.

HOW?

Using a holistic, trauma-informed, and community-led approach, the project will deliver engaging and interactive workshops, group sessions, outreach activities, and one-to-one support.

Sessions will be age appropriate and designed to encourage young people to think positively about their future, including employment, healthy lifestyles, financial resilience, saving, pensions, tax, insurance, wellbeing, and life skills.

Alongside direct work with children and young people, the project will also engage parents, carers, schools, businesses, and community partners to strengthen wider family and community resilience.

AIM

We want to encourage healthier and more open conversations around money, wellbeing, aspirations, and support within families and communities.

This reflects our wider approach of supporting the whole person, whole family, and whole community, recognising that lasting change happens when communities are empowered together.

US

The project builds on Helping Hands’ nearly 30 years of community-based support and strong partnerships with schools, charities, NHS partners, foodbanks, and local organisations. Through this work, we aim to create stronger, healthier, and more connected communities where children, young people, and families can thrive.

WITH THIS FUNDING.......

Funding would be used to develop and deliver our preventative early intervention project supporting  children, young people, and families across schools, community centres, and local community settings within Oadby & Wigston, and then with growth into Leicester, and wider Leicestershire.

The funding would support staffing costs for outreach workers, and facilitators to deliver workshops, one to-one support, group sessions, and community engagement activities. It would also contribute towards resources, educational materials, venue delivery costs, travel, and the development of accessible community-based activities.

The project will focus on key themes including emotional wellbeing, financial resilience, healthy relationships, confidence building, life skills, digital awareness, and future planning around employment, savings, pensions, tax, and independent living. Sessions will be interactive, age-appropriate, and trauma informed.

Ultimately, the funding would enable Helping Hands to build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities by supporting young people and families before problems escalate into crisis.

Thanks to the Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation, every individual donation made on our Crowdfunder page will be tripled, which means your £10 donation would give £40 to Helping Hands or a magic £25 donation generates £100 for our charity.

The MAB Foundation will continue to do so until it reaches £5000 in donations.
