WELCOME TO THE CHILDREN OF MASINDI & BRISTOL INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES HAMPER FUNDRAISER!

We’re teaming up with some brilliant Bristol independent businesses to raise funds for Children of Masindi, so that we can continue on our mission to improve the education, health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Masindi District of Uganda.

With the kind support of a number of local producers and retailers, we’ve curated hampers of treats in return for your donations. Why not support a good cause, find a new favourite Bristol independent, and treat yourself?

CHILDREN OF MASINDI

(Registered Charity No. 1128246)

Children of Masindi is a grass-roots charity from Bristol and with the support of local communities, schools and individuals, we’re on a mission to improve the education, health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Masindi District of Uganda, with a particular focus on the Kamurasi Demonstration School.

You can go to our website, check us out on Facebook , Twitter, or Instagram, or read on for more info!

WHY ARE WE CROWDFUNDING?

With all our planned fundraising events on hold for now, raising money to continue our projects with the Kamusari Primary School is challenging. But it's as important as ever that we support those countries and communities that don’t have access to the resources we do.

Knowing that the small, independent businesses that help to make Bristol such a unique and brilliant place to live are also going through tough times at the moment, and that there’s nothing like a special delivery arriving at your door to brighten up another day of quarantine, we came up with an idea… In return for donations, we have a number of hampers full of treats, sourced from some generous, Bristol independents, to cheer up your day!

We hope this campaign will achieve 3 main goals:

  • Raise vital funds for Children of Masindi
  • Promote some amazing, independent Bristol businesses
  • Spread a bit of happiness to the people of Bristol in lockdown

THE HAMPERS

CHILDREN OF MASINDI - WHO ARE WE?

We're a small, Bristol based charity that has been focused on improving the education, health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Masindi District of Uganda for the last 12 years. We have a particular focus on and longstanding relationship with the Kamusari Demonstration School.

We’re a small operation, which means we’re able to achieve a lot because we focus on a few projects a year and see them through to completion. We’re really proud that over 95% of all our income is used to directly benefit the children who live in Masindi. At least one of our volunteer trustees visits Masindi each year to support with the implementation and prioritisation of projects (at no cost to the charity).

Children of Masindi was founded 12 years ago by Bristol Primary School Teacher Karen, who loves to involve her class at the Horfield CofE Primary School in creative ways of making links and raising awareness. Every one of our team of 5 trustees works for the charity on a voluntary basis, one of the reasons we're able to keep overheads down and direct all funds to projects that make a difference.

A BIT ABOUT OUR WORK...

During the past few years, we’ve successfully established vocational training for the disabled children at the Kamurasi Primary School. Weaving, tailoring, knitting, and bicycle maintenance are among some of the training projects we have set up.

We work with Lillian, Headteacher at Kamusari Primary School, to identify, plan and implement projects that will make a real difference to the wellbeing of the children at the school. For example, in recent years, we’ve purchased and installed a 150,000 litre water tank, built a new shower block for the boarding school, created a new kitchen area, and much much more.

We also continue to support the school by funding salaries for specialists who offer training and educational support to the disabled children at the school. We work with the local education department to encourage them to pay for additional, special needs trained, signing teachers.

There are still so many projects we would love to develop to help improve the lives of many children in Masindi. Together, we can change lives!

Perhaps you want to treat yourself to one of our specially curated hampers, maybe you know someone who would really appreciate a pick me up, or perhaps you just have a few pounds to spare today. Either way, you can be sure that your donation will make a huge difference to the children and young people of Kamusari Primary School and that your support will be so much appreciated now, more than ever.

Thank you so much for reading, sharing and donating!

We ask project owners to honour their rewards wherever possible but please note that all pledges are donations and there is no guarantee that you will receive any rewards from the project owner. Please see Crowdfunder's Terms of Use for more information regarding rewards for pledges.
