Aim

I am hoping to raise enough money to be able get a website, publicity photos and a promo recording.

Ever since the pandemic, Gordon and I have never got back on our feet financially or made, what I would say is, significant progress in terms of our careers. We’ve really struggled and, as most of you will know, I’ve spoken about it quite honestly and, to some people’s horror, openly. It’s my personality. I over share and I get it, it’s not everyone’s thing. But as someone who grew up being bullied and stifling various emotions, it’s maybe not a shock to see why I would go the other way as an adult.
The truth is, there are SO many things holding us back at the moment and it’s mainly because performers now need a vast array of things in order to promote themselves in the arts - and there’s NO money to do any of it. These things that others are managing to get, through being with partners who have well paid stable jobs or who are lucky enough to be working at a high level, are just impossible for us to budget for when essential household bills like mortgages are the priority. And now that I’m facing sequestration, it gets no better.
So, after being told by numerous people that I NEED these things in order to be taken seriously as a 50 year old singer, I am resorting to something Gordon has always told me NOT to do and that is beg or, as I would rather call it, ask for help.

I’ve realised these last few years that everyone’s idea of poverty is different. For some, it’s being down to their last £20,000 (yes that was a thing) and for others (HELLO) it’s living day to day not knowing what you’re going to afford to pay that week. When you live like that you cannot make space in your budget for luxuries - and sadly that includes anything for our careers. It can’t be done and god knows, we’ve tried.

So here I am. Just a middle-aged singer hoping I can turn to my friends and ask them to take pity on this decrepit wreck of a 50 year old and ask for some help. Anything anyone can afford to donate will go a LONG way in helping me to get the things for my career I so desperately lack.
I promise in return I will repay your kindness in whatever way I can: tickets to concerts, copies of any cd I make, publicity photos to scare the birds away. Whatever… and of course, lifelong gratitude.
