Raising money for Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice
Charles Persinger and Lynda Wardley Walk the St Augustine Camino to honour their lost loved ones and demand Justice and government accountability for all COVID bereaved families.
Charles Persinger, a dedicated campaigner with Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK, is undertaking the Saint Augustine Camino – a historic pilgrimage route through the orchards and sacred sites of Kent – to call for truth, accountability and justice for the thousands of families who lost loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The route runs approximately 70 miles from Rochester Cathedral, through Aylesford Priory and Canterbury Cathedral, to the Shrine of St Augustine in Ramsgate. As a Kent resident, Charles and Lynda chose this meaningful local path as a place of reflection, resilience and resolve.
Persinger lost both his wife, Katie, a care-home worker of 25 years, and his mother, Susan, within just six weeks of each other in early 2021. Katie, aged 51, contracted COVID-19 at the care home where she worked; Susan, aged 74, died after contracting the virus in hospital. Lynda lost her 84-year-old father Robin to coronavirus contracted during lockdown in a care home in Jan 2021. Their deaths, like those of so many others, occurred amid widespread concerns about PPE shortages, care-home policies and the government’s overall pandemic response.
Having successfully fought for an Inquiry into the pandemic, CBFFJ is now campaigning to ensure that its recommendations are fully implemented by the Government so that lives are saved when the next pandemic hits.
By completing the St Augustine Camino, Charles and Lynda aim to spotlight the human cost of the pandemic and renew calls for the government to deliver the comprehensive justice bereaved families deserve.
