Aim

Our crew of 4 are rowing 3,200 miles across the Atlantic to raise £100,000 for charity. To get us to the start line, we need your help!

Who are we?

Adam, Maddie, Richard and Simon are South West-based gig boat rowers. We have set ourselves this ridiculous challenge of conquering the Atlantic waves, rowing 2 hours on, 2 hours off for 50 or more days, all without access to a flushing toilet! Why, I hear you ask. The answer is simple - because we want to give something back to two seriously fantastic charities that have helped our families and friends in ways that go above and beyond the call of duty - Parkinson's UK (Adam's and Maddie's dads both had this debilitating condition) and Axminster & Lyme Cancer Support.

Why are we crowdfunding?

This whole project will cost us a lot of money. We have had some real success in securing corporate sponsorship, with three headline sponsors signed up so far. But we need to raise another £40,000 to fund aspects of our row. We need to buy more kit - oars, water-maker, safety equipment and communications. We need to buy literally a million calories of food. And we need to fund the boring but expensive logistics that get everything to the start line.

Our target in this crowd-funder is to raise £40,000 to fund the project. Once the project is funded, we'll be able to set about the task of raising £100,000 for our chosen charities. We'll be doing that in part by selling our specialist ocean rowing boat at the end of the row, with the proceeds all going to our two charities.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Your generous donations will fund the vast majority of the kit that we need, including our oars, our water-maker (the machine that converts sea water into something that's good enough to drink), our safety kit including flares, personal location devices (EPIRBs), our communications equipment (radio, sat phone) and of course our food. We'll each be eating 4 dehydrated expedition meals a day - that's 800 meals we need to buy!

We'd love you to make a donation to help us fund the project. Or you can purchase specific pieces of equipment (see the different rewards). You can also pay to get your name put on our boat - a reward that basically means that you can tell your friends you crossed the Atlantic in a tiny rowing boat!

If you run a business, you can pay to get your logo onto our boat. You can also sponsor pieces of equipment in your business's name. We'll shout about your business on our ever-growing social media channels too as we cross the Atlantic!

Community Impact

As well as raising a massive amount of money for charity, we are also going to be using our row to push two other messages.

1) We'll be highlighting the damage that climate change is doing to our coastal communities and to our oceans. And if that's not enough, we'll also be conducting some primary research into sea oxygen levels and sea temperatures whilst we are rowing! We're privileged to be working with 100Green on this project. 100Green are the UK's only supplier of 100% renewable energy. And

2) Adam is registered blind. We will be using our row to show people with disabilities that rowing as a sport can be accessible to them. Adam can't wait for the Atlantic night shifts. "Let's see how the others cope then" he keeps saying!

How you can play your part

There are two simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success. You can donate an amount of your choice, or you can purchase one of our numerous rewards - each of which will get your name on our boat!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
