Charity Bike ride/ Row

Aim: The aim of my project is too raise as much money possible to help the young people of Thurrock rugby club gain the best rugby experience.

Who are we?

My name is Matt Murphy, I am  one of the many coaches at Thurrock rugby club based in Essex.

Why are we crowdfunding?

In 2023 I was asked to help out coaching the current under 11's age group at Thurrock Rugby club. From the off set i knew there was going to be problems with teaching the kids how to play rugby due to the lack of equipment, we had all the right equipment but just not enough for every age group to use as and when it was needed on training days. So fast forward two years and the struggle is still there but we as a club would like to change that with your help and donations towards our charity bike ride / row on the 9th of august 2025.  We would like to be able to buy some equipment for each age group, and to also facilitate being able to give every young person the best rugby experience we can by helping out with costs of rugby tours and away games and help the young people make lasting memories.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We would like to be able to purchase if we raise enough money, size specific rugby balls for the different age groups, we would also like to buy new tackle pads and  tackle bags as these are a great bit of kit for every team to have some of their own to use. The age groups would be looking to purchase new tag belts and bibs for different training exercises. We would also like to be able to give some financial help to people that would sometimes not be able to join us on rugby tours, as the young people get such good memories from going on such events. 

Community impact

Not only are we trying to raise money for our rugby teams, we are also trying to raise the profile of Thurrock rugby football club ( The biggest club in Thurrock) but also the community spirit we have at the club and in the Thurrock area by inviting local companies along to our charity bike ride/ row to show their support and show them what we do as a club with the local children of Thurrock. 

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Donate- give a little or give a lot the choice is yours but with your contribution it will help our great community based rugby club in many different ways.
