Learn to grow food with nature, nurture soil and build resilience together.
Who are we, and what is our project about?
Blackhills CSA is a community-supported growing project on the Gower, where we grow food, share skills and bring people together around growing, wellbeing and living more sustainably.
We believe that learning how to grow food is an important form of resilience. As our climate becomes less predictable, we need to rethink how we grow, looking after our soil, working with nature and reducing our reliance on chemicals and artificial inputs.
We want to run 12 free monthly workshops throughout 2027, sharing practical skills that people can use at home, in gardens, allotments and community spaces. The workshops will cover subjects such as growing without chemicals, building healthy soil, composting, saving seeds, natural pest control, water management and growing in ways that can cope better with changing weather.
This project supports the Climate Action funding criteria by helping our community develop practical skills and knowledge to adapt to climate change while creating healthier, more resilient local food systems.

Why are we crowdfunding?
Our weather is becoming harder to predict. Droughts, heavy rainfall, heat and changing growing seasons are making food growing more challenging. We believe one of the best ways to respond is by giving people the knowledge and confidence to work with nature rather than against it.
We want to make these skills accessible to everyone, regardless of income or experience, so we are raising £8,000 to run 12 free workshops throughout 2027.
Each month we'll share practical, hands-on skills that people can take home and put into practice straight away. Together we can grow more food, improve our soils, support biodiversity and become better prepared for the challenges ahead.

How we’ll spend the money raised
We're aiming to raise £8,000 to make the workshops possible for the whole year.
£6,000 - workshop delivery
Paying us to plan, prepare and deliver 12 free practical workshops throughout the year, covering growing, soil health, composting, natural pest control, seed saving and climate-resilient growing.
£1,000 - portable power station
A portable power station will give us reliable electricity for the outdoor classroom, allowing us to run workshops, demonstrations and community events without relying on mains electricity.
£500 - workshop materials and equipment
Seeds, growing materials, tools, composting equipment and other resources needed to make the sessions practical and hands-on.
£500 - running costs and promotion
Insurance, printing, publicity and other costs involved in making the workshops accessible to our local community.
Every pound raised will help us share practical skills that can make a difference long after each workshop has finished.

How you can help
There are three simple ways to get involved and support our project:
1. Make a donation
Every donation, big or small, will help us get closer to our £8,000 target and keep these workshops free for everyone.
2. Spread the word
Please share our crowdfunding campaign with friends, family, neighbours, gardening groups, allotments and anyone who might want to learn how to grow food in a changing climate.
3. Volunteer with us
If you have a skill you'd like to share or would simply like to lend a hand at one of our workshops, we'd love to hear from you.
Let's learn, grow and adapt together. 🌱
