Help us open our ceramic studio/shop in Ramsgate - doubling up as a space to host workshops and pop ups for our community of local artists
Who is Minnie-Mae Studio - the background story
Minnie-Mae Studio started officially in 2020 (on my kitchen table, whilst pregnant)...but my love for ceramics began way back, aged four, in the community Saturday class at the local city farm. In 2016 I found myself in Clayspace in Margate and that joy of clay all came flooding back. I started attending sessions more and took the leap to make it a full time business during Covid lockdown.
Since then, we have steadily grown a small business (there have been some amazing moments, alongside some hairy ones) with products now sold in a selection of independent shops locally, in the UK and worldwide. A very proud moment last year was launching an exclusive seasonal range in Fortnum & Mason.
22 York Street : The next chapter
After five wonderful years building my ceramics business in Margate, we are taking the exciting step in expanding our studio and opening a shop in Ramsgate.
Ceramics and interior objects for the home is what we create - items with charm and whimsy. Each product is 100% original and handmade, making them unique pieces for gifts and personal treasures.
Alongside this, we envisage 22 York street being a space for creative workshops and a curated showcase opportunity for local artists and designers, with potential for pop-ups within the shop.
During the weekdays, the space will primarily be used as a fully functioning ceramics studio, allowing us to have more space and facilities to expand our range and production ling for Minnie-Mae Studio.
Seaside retails units are notoriously hard to keep running due to their seasonality, but... with this magical pairing of being a working studio and shop/ pop-up space, it means we’ll be able to make it a viable business model, and at the same time, being a part of regenerating Ramsgate old town, alongside a host of other glorious independent businesses.
Why We Need Your Help
Being a small business, we are always looking for ways to develop and expand, while managing the challenge of costs & feasibility. But we feel 22 York Street offers the perfect opportunity for growth, both within the business itself and in the local community.
In order to get the space up and running, there’s a long list of jobs and items needed. Some of these include:
- electrician to wire in the kilns
- full lighting fit
- storage and display units to be fitted
- laying a new easy to clean special linoleum flooring
- a clay recycling unit
- extraction unit installed
- safety certificates, insurance etc
- shop front/window refurb and signage
- painting the front and rear signage
The list is endless, but the basic refit has been costed at £28,000
Which brings us to why you’re here. It would be fantastic if we can raise a chunk of this money to help reduce the financial pressure on the business. And as a huge thank you for any contribution made, we will be gifting unique pieces, handmade and specially designed for the fundraiser, alongside an opportunity to be part of the studio’s new history.
If you’d like to be a part of the journey in expanding our little business and in turn helping the regeneration of Ramsgate town centre, please do consider purchasing one of the rewards below.
Thank you so much for reading.
