CENTREPEACE

RCN 1150049, Paignton

CentrePeace is an independent charitable community centre that supports a wide spectrum of people in the community by offering a variety of services all free of charge. But it is under threat! In order to secure our future we need to buy our building. You can help towards this by either donating a small amount or making a one off donation. Every little will help to secure the future of this vital service. (For further details of what we do see below)

CentrePeace is a charitable community centre. We aim to be a safe space and community hub for anyone who wishes to use our services. CentrePeace is an independent charity which aims to empower and support by offering a wide variety of services. We offer people the opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence, make friends, seek help. By empowering people with confidence and skill building volunteering opportunities and workshops we aim to help enhance the lives of those in the local community.

CentrePeace aims to support and enhance the quality of life of anyone who wishes to make use of our services. We aim to promote long term health and wellbeing.  Our volunteering opportunities are tailored to the needs of the individual in order to optimise their skills and abilities, by working closely with the NHS, local colleges and SEN schools we are able offer work experience opportunities, placements for Duke of Edinburgh and work experience for job seekers. In addition we work closely with other charities such as AGE UK to offer groups, volunteering, events for individuals that they are working with making a successful collaborative relationship.

We have a community  based cafe at out premises where people can come in for a nutricious affordable meal or a tea and a coffee. This is a safe and friendly place for the local community where they can come to socialise and to meet new friends. we also have a pay it forward board where people can put meals or drinks up for others to have when they are struggling.

Aside from the Cafe we have a charity shop where the prices are affordable and the items are good quality, making it possible for anyone to feel good on a budget. Nothing is wasted as we recycle what is not saleable, and other items are repaired in our textile group. As well as being great for the community it means less waste and less landfill.

We offer 12 weeks of free counselling, through our own service to those in need in the local community. This helps those who would be unable to access such services or would have to suffer a long waiting list.

We hold group activities which are free to all. These groups consist of: Art projects, Textiles and upcycling, Music, Animation film making and Indigenous storytelling. They are hosted by tutors and the materials are provided . We aim to give people access to courses and skills that they may not other be able access.

We regularly reward our volunteers for their hard work and their efforts at CentrePeace. We have organised numerous outings from bowling to boat rides around the bay. Our volunteers make CentrePeace what it is but are also a core part of what keeps it open and running. Everyone is valued and each gives something in their own special way.
