Central Dalkeith & Woodburn Pantry is a community food pantry where any household in the Central Dalkeith and Woodburn area can sign up to a free membership and do a weekly shop for £3.50. This allows them 10 points to purchase grocery items ranging from tinned meat to soups and tinned vegetables, toiletries from shampoo to toothpaste, household cleaning items and other essentials. With every shop we offer completely free fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and bread products, pet food, and period and incontinence products. The Pantry operates from the MARC building at 10 Woodburn Road and is open every Friday from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.

The Pantry was set up by passionate members of the local community in response to the cost of living crisis and is entirely volunteer-run. We opened our doors on the 14th of October 2022 with the support and guidance of Mayfield and Easthouses Development Trust, Midlothian Voluntary Action and Midlothian Council. After a year of operation, we have more than 370 households registered. Our members come to the Pantry for a wide range of reasons and any household to whom this service would make a difference is welcome to join.
As the weekly shops are heavily discounted to make them affordable for our users, we can't run on our income alone. We rely on grants and donations so that we are able to keep providing low-cost food and essential household items to those who need it. As such, any contributions are always gratefully received.
The Pantry couldn’t function without our wonderful team of more than 20 volunteers, who collect our stock, set up the Pantry every Friday, welcome our customers and assist with their shopping, and clear up at the end of the day. We are actively looking for more volunteers so if you have a few hours to spare on a Friday and would like to help, please contact Alex at [email protected].
