We're still collecting donations
On the 16th January 2024 we'd raised £1,335 with 24 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
To restore a historic sailing boat for use as a cargo carrying vessel and re-establish trading links between the Celtic countries.

On the 16th January 2024 we'd raised £1,335 with 24 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We are a team of sailors, boatbuilders, timber growers and food producers in North Wales committed to establishing a more resilient and sustainable local economy. We have formed a Community Benefit Society, Celtic Coasts Sail and Trade, to this aim.
We believe passionately that trading by sail is viable if organised by and for the community, and offers many ecological advantages.
We are raising money to help complete the restoration of Mystery II, a wooden Morecambe Bay Prawner, for use as a dedicated cargo sailing vessel. She was built in 1911 as a fishing boat, and is designed to cope with the sailing conditions of this area. Her relatively small size and shallow draft means that she will be able to sail into all the coastal harbours. All money donated to this crowdfunder will be put directly into this.
The restoration of the boat involves many different skills and materials. We will source most of our timber from the woodlands of North Wales which encourages interest in better woodland management for a high quality local product.
Our vision is for the revival of the traditional coastal trading economy, with frequent arrivals and departures of working boats crewed by young people with competence in navigation and boat handling. These boats providing work for the boatyards and the timberyards in their repair and maintenance and offering opportunities for sail training and adventure.
We have a Facebook page, Celtic Coasts - Sail and Trade if you would like to find out more or get in contact; and an Instagram account, celticcoasts.sailandtrade
