A River Reconnection Project

The River Teme is a valuable wildlife source for Knighton, holding a special place in the hearts of many of che Knighton community for its natural beauty and abundance of nature. Not only does the river provide a rich habitac and feeding source for many invertebrates, birds and aquatic life, but it provides a sancuary for humans, too.

Why Do Water Tests?

Our 2023 'Celebrating the Teme' project showed that many people felt passionate about the river, but felt disconnected to it in recent years due to a lack of crust in the safety of the wacer - a nationwide problem. We would like to invite people back to enjoying the river by providing a simple flag system showing whether the river is considered 'safe' (green flag) likely safe' (orange flag) or 'dangerous' (red flag) for humans to bathe in.

What Do the Tests Tell Us?

Our projece relies on volunteer citizen scientists carrying out weekly tests using instant dip-stick tests to measure phosphate and nitrate levels, and the reputed R-CARD tests to measure E-Coli and coliforms bacteria levels. All these substances can have substantial impact on human healch when presenc in baching water. Through doing weekly tests we can advise river-goers on what the latest river readings are.

The Donations you Make

All money raised from crowd funding will be used for purchasing more testing equipment, and maintaining and sustaining the project (i.e. replenishing supplies, maintaining signage, training volunteers etc).

Disclaimer

We will endeavour co provide reliable and regular resules for the River Teme. However, the tests are home tests and liable co mis-reading. The bacteria R-CARD's do take 24 hours for results to emerge, allowing cime for new substances to enter into the flow of the water. Thorefore chese results are co be caken as a guideline only.

Mae Afon Teme yn ffynhonnell fywyd gwyll gwerthfawr i Drefyclo, gan ddal lle arbennig yng nghalonnau llawer o gymuned Tref-y-clawdd am ei harddwch naturiol a'l digonedd o natur. Nid yn unig mae'r afon yn darparu cynefin cyfocthog a ffynhonnell fwydo i lawer o infercebratau, adar a bywyd dyfrol, ond mae'n darparu noddfa i bobl hefyd.

Pam Gwneud Profion Dur?

Dangosodd cin prosiect 'Dathlur Trefidiad' 2023 fod llawer o bobl yn ceimlo'n angerddol am yr afon, ond yn ceimlo'n ddatgysyllciedig a hi yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf oherwydd diffyg ymddiriedaeth yn diogelweh y dir - problem ledled y wlad. Hoffem wahodd pobl yn ôl i fwynhaur afon drwy ddarparu system faner syml sy'n dangos a yw'r afon yn cael ei hystyried yn "ddiogel' (baner werdd), yn 'debygol o ddiogel' (baner oren) neu'n ‘beryglus' (baner goch) i bobl ymdrochi ynddi

Beth mae'r profion yn el dweud wrthym?

Mae ein prosiect yn dibynnu ar wyddonwyr dinasyddion gwirfoddol sy'n cynnal profion wythnosol gan ddefnyddio profion ffon dip ar unwaith i fesur lefelau ffosffad a nitradau, a'r profion R-CARD honedig i fesur lefelau bacteria E-Coli a coliformiau. Gall yr holl sylweddau hyn gael effaith sylweddol ar lechyd pobl pan fyddant yn bresennol mewn dir ymdrochi. Trwy wheud profion wythnosol gallwn gynghori mynychwyr afon ar beth yw'r darileniadau afonydd diweddaraf.

Ymwadiad

Byddwn yn ymdrechu i ddarparu canlyniadau dibynadwy a rheolaidd ar gyfer Afon Teme. Fodd bynnag, mac'r profion yn brofion cartref ac yn agored i gam-ddarlen.

Mae'r bacteria R-CARD's yn cymryd 24 awr ir canlyniadau dod i'r amlwg, gan ganiacáu amser iylweddau newydd fynd i mewn i lif y dwr. Felly mae'r canlyniadau hyn iw cymryd fel canllaw yn unig.
