Aim

We aim to improve our social and sporting facilities at the club, in preparation for the return of cricket & tennis to our 157 year old home

Background:

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a stop to cricket, tennis, and all social events at our club that ordinarily would provide income for the club’s projects.

With our usual revenue streams negatively impacted, we are reaching out for your support to help us move forward with vital projects that will improve the facilities for our players, members and wider community.

Who we are:

The club was formed in 1862, although we moved onto the next field (our current home), 2 years later. In 1920, the Chatburn Road site was purchased by the Southworth family, who bestowed it to the club forever, securing this as our home for the last 157 years, and hopefully many more happy years to come. In 1895, our first Tennis courts were built. It should be noted that these grass courts weren't particularly suited to the Ribble Valley climate!...and were replaced by hard courts in 1930.

We have a great open-access ground and a fantastic group of volunteers, which allows us to run social activities for all ages. We host many annual fundraising events, which include:- bonfires, gin festivals, cheese & wine festivals and many more. These events attract thousands of people each year which contributes to the financing and improvement of our club.

In addition to all these volunteer activities, we even have time to play a bit of sport! Our thriving cricket section features 5 senior men's sides, a women's team, and 14 junior sides for boys and girls aged 6 to 19. In 2021, we aim to become a disability champion club; further cementing our position as a club that is open to all. Our growing tennis section now comprises 130 members of all ages, with further growth of junior training provision planned for 2021.

What are we fundraising for?

The club are fundraising for a new concertina cricket practice net. The club currently have no fit cricket nets to use on the field, rendering training out on the square nigh on impossible.

We are also aiming to build a social area for tennis and cricket with new picnic benches running alongside the ground, and by the tennis courts.
