MAL’s aim is to create and release our debut album, CBAD, and bring our music to wider audiences. We need your help to do so!
Who are MAL?
MAL is a Glasgow based band that blends underground electronic sounds with traditional music in a whole new light. The band is led by harpist and producer Malachy Arnold, who places the Clarsach at the forefront of genres like techno and more. He is joined by Finn MacPherson (whistle/pipes), Macaulay Ross (fiddle), Gillie O'Flaherty (synth/keys), and Grace Morton (Vocals). Together, they create an unheard, unique sound, merging traditional instruments with hard-hitting, euphoric beats from garage, house, and jungle.
What is CBAD?
Our debut album CBAD, meaning “Cuin a bhios an dannsa” (“When will the dance be”) in Gàidhlig, is a culmination of the music that we have written and performed live since forming in 2024. Finally ready to record and release to the public.
The music that will feature aon this album is worked from the shared emotion and rhythm between traditional music and electronic dance music. We aren’t trying to fuse random styles, but follow the ties that already exists in both - repetition, groove, and a collective energy.
Alongside that, the record is also about voice and presence. It brings in languages and perspectives that are often marginalised or unheard in mainstream spaces, featuring Palestinian rapping and poetry alongside Gàidhlig vocals, using whatever platform we have to give those voices presence.
The music in this album is heavily inspired by the likes of Martyn Bennett and Kneecap.
How will the money raised help achieve this?
The money raised will help us take the project from recording to release. This includes studio recording sessions, mixing and mastering, and post-production.
A significant part of the funding will also go towards physical production, including manufacturing physical copies, alongside artwork, and design.
We will also allocate budget to merchandise production to support the release and help build a sustainable way for the project to exist beyond digital platforms.
Only with your help, we can make this possible!
