Help Celebrate 25 Years of Brighton's Beloved Community Samba Band!
In 2025, the streets of Brighton will pulse with an extraordinary celebration as Barulho - our city's vibrant community samba band - marks its 25th year with 'Carnaval de Barulho' (Carnival of Noise)!
Throughout a quarter century, Barulho has been a leading Brighton community band, bringing together diverse members from across the city and local area. We turn traditional samba on its head by blending influences from Afro-Cuban and South American traditional forms with funk, house and drum & bass. You've probably seen (and heard!) us at iconic Brighton events like Burning the Clocks, the Children's Parade, Lewes Bonfire, and Trans Pride, as well as countless festivals, parties, weddings and birthdays.
We also want to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Carnival Collective's event Beating Time in 2000, a collaboration of drummers and dancers from which many of the city's current samba bands, including Barulho, were born.
As such, we'll be joined by:
- Brighton School of Samba
- Carnival Collective
- Drum and Blaze
- Rosaria Gracia Dancers
- Sambalanco
- Silver Sounds
- Varndean School Samba Band
showcasing the city's diverse samba community.
The Celebration
To mark this milestone, we're planning an unforgettable seafront spectacle! Picture this: Barulho parading along Brighton's iconic promenade to the i360, where former band members and other local samba groups will join for a grand combined performance. We're particularly excited to be collaborating with design students from Brighton MET college, who will create unique costumes for the performers and help capture the whole event on film.
