Get Carly Tait back on the road to Rio, with a new car to get her to training
She's on course to represent Team GB in Rio De Janeiro this Summer, having raced in the Diamond League (at Hampden Park) and the IPC Grand Prix Final at Birmingham, as well as the Anniversary Games last year.
She was, that is, until new PIP disability benefits cuts resulted in her car being taken away.
After being reassessed back in February, she has now been told that her personal independence payments (or PIP) are being cut.
She will now lose her‘lifeline’, provided by the Motability charity scheme, which she relies on to get to and from training sessions (as well as university to study and to work).
Carly told The Guardian: “I had training half an hour after I opened the letter [from the Department for Work and Pensions].“I spent the entire time crying as I went round the track. My coach rushed over asking what’s wrong. There I was sobbing, ‘I’ve lost my car. They’re taking my car.’”
“This is Rio year. This whole year has been about getting myself into a medal position. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. They made all this effort in London 2012 to showcase disability. But now the government is making us housebound,” she added.
So we want to buy her a car, so that she can do us proud at Rio 2016.
We need to get behind our athletes - unlike our Government.
Pledge what you can towards a new car for Carly.
