The Little Theatre is owned by The Carlton Players who are a theatre group in Birkenhead Wirral. The Theatre itself is used extensively by amateur dramatic groups from all over Merseyside.

In 1930 The Carlton Players were created by two teenage girls, Edna Holgate and Ruby Copeland (later to become Edna Rowson and Ruby Thelwall)
After the Second World War, and the sad loss of The Argyle Theatre in Birkenhead, they and their friends created The Carlton Little Theatre from the existing Scottish Presbyterian Church in Grange Road West, Birkenhead.
This was not an easy undertaking, involving raising much funding and hard physical work. Creating productions at the same time, which they used to perform on a small stage in the, now, foyer area of the building, they, proudly, opened the upstairs auditorium in 1958.
We are proud to say the Carlton Little Theatre is still going strong, however we are unable to rest on our laurels regarding fundraising.
We will continue to produce excellent shows, fully supported by so many wonderful amateur production groups, but we are hoping that you may be able to help us with keeping the building lovely and dry.
There are reasons why churches are constantly looking for funds, we, as a theatre, are no different.
