We're raising funds so we can support care workers in financial crisis, campaign on their behalf and offer free mental health support.
We are the only UK-wide charity which exists to support care workers, and we need your help to keep experienced care workers in the jobs they love.
Care workers are still recovering from worst effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, when many lost loved ones and worked long hours on the frontline during a frightening and rapidly changing global crisis. 40,000 people died in care homes during this time – and care workers were the only ones there to say goodbye.
Now, the cost of living crisis is putting extra pressure on low paid care workers and their families. Many of them are making the tough decision to quit so they can get better paid jobs in supermarkets, while the sector faces the greatest workforce crisis in its history.
Care workers are fast becoming some of the lowest paid workers in the country, even though they provide an essential public service. Half of care workers earn within 30p of the national minimum wage and after five years working in care, they will only receive an extra 7 pence in their pay packet.
We can’t afford to lose care workers – it means people don’t receive the care they deserve, and hospitals are full of people who are healthy enough to leave but are not safe to return home.
But 1 in 4 care workers left their jobs last year.
Happier care workers provide higher quality care. With your help, we can provide free mental health support, signpost care workers to financial advice and support, and campaign for better pay.
Most care workers who come to us tell us they are not motivated by money. But when the job is getting more stressful, and they’re finding it hard to cope with the rising cost of living, it makes it harder to stay.
That’s why we created a programme that provides care workers with free mental health support.
By pledging your support today, you can help us to reach our target of £50,000 which could support 100 experienced care workers this winter.
If you donate £250 this Christmas, Aviva will match this amount through their Cost of Living Boost. Your total donation of £500 can pay for a care worker to access ten free sessions with a qualified therapist.
How will we use these funds:
The money we raise through this campaign will go towards our Mental Wellbeing and Health Support programme. We have partnered with an organisation called Red Umbrella so that we can provide care workers who approach us with free therapy.
We will also use this money to expand our campaigns and advocacy work – ensuring we can represent the interests of frontline care workers on the national stage.
