Aim

To develop our off-slope experience for Cardiff Ski Club members from grass routes all the way to elite participation

Who are we?

Cardiff Ski Club is based at Fairwater Ski Slope. The club has members from a wide range of ages and abilities and looks to develop participants skills in ski racing simply for fun or to an elite racing level.

Racers from the club train twice a week and regularly take part in friendly, national and even international races with much success.

Community impact

As well as developing skiing skills, Cardiff Ski Club also has a very strong community bringing together a wide range of participants, parents, coaches, volunteers, future coaches and future champions.

Through sharing the passion of the sport together, members also regularly compete at a range of levels from local and school events up to representing their country at an elite level.

As skiers progress up through the age ranges, the club actively encourages participants to develop their coaching and mentoring skills so that they can share their knowledge with the next generation of racers allowing them to develop life long transferable skills.

Families play a large role in the ski club and wider community and are actively encouraged to participate, volunteer, socialise, learn and support by taking part in servicing training session to ensure that racers skis are always in top condition.

Why are we crowdfunding?

The club has been financially impacted by COVID and is now looking to increase its membership base to secure the future of the club. To do this the club needs to improve the off- slope benefits that we offer members.

To ensure skier safety and quality performance, regular ski servicing is required. This is something that many families are currently struggling to achieve for a number of reasons, including access to the necessary tools and space. As a club we would like to provide benches, vices, tools, irons and files for our members to use. We plan to provide all members (minimum 3 months who own their own equipment) with a loaned edging tool and gloves. This will not only improve performance and safety but also ensure that we are being as sustainable as possible as a club. Maintaining high equipment standards will ensure that members equipment last for longer.

When skiers attend races across the country they also need access to a dry storage, warm up and servicing area. Currently the club does not have anything suitable for this purpose and we would like to provide members with a movable undercover space.

Cardiff Ski slope is situated in Fairwater and has a wide range of members from surrounding areas with a mixtures of genders, ages and abilities. The club is looking to make skiing as accessible to all as possible.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Funding will be used to purchase equipment including 40 hand edging tools, clamps and benches that members will have full use of. The servicing equipment will also include replaceable matting as required by all slopes to ensure that the area has as little impact on the environment as possible.

A gazebo will also provide a much better race day environment for racers and supporters as they travel around the country competing.

Edging tools @ £20 each  = £800

Gloves @£5 each = £200
