Kickstarter funding to provide identity and signage to Captains Clough, and to bring the local community to their local Nature Reserve
Why Captains Clough?
Captains Clough is Bolton's best kept secret! This beautiful woodland space provides a haven for wildlife and biodiversity. Despite it's proximity to a bustling main road, all you can hear is birdsong and the peaceful trickle of the stream!
Who's involved?
Despite holding Local Nature Reserve status, Captains Clough has been neglected over the years, becoming overgrown with invasive species and polluted with litter. However, local residents and Bolton-based community groups want to change this! Bolton Green Umbrella, who connect and support community groups with a passion for the environment, want to empower these local residents to turn the Clough into a much-loved community space where people can come together to connect with nature and each other. This year, residents came together to tackle the invasive species issue in the Clough, removing substantial areas of the invasive Himalayan Balsam - and now we want to do more!
How you can help
Your donation will help us create signage around Captain's Clough to direct people to the space, and share knowledge about the local nature, biodiversity, and heritage. From here, we will organise immersive events and activities such as nature trails, foraging trips, and woodland maintenance to improve and monitor biodiversity. With a focus on climate resilience, we'll enhance habitats with water retention systems such as leaky dams to mitigate flooding risks.
We thank you for taking time to read about our project and would love to welcome you to your new community space!
