Rugby League Tour
I am currently a serving Police Officer within Merseyside Police where I have worked for the past 6 years. I am pleased to say that I have recently been selected to represent the British Police in the forthcoming Rugby League tour to Canada. The tour will take place over a 14 day period commencing on the 18th September 2017 where the team will compete in Vancouver against a Canadian representative team and New Zealand Police.
The purpose of this tour is twofold. Firstly to test the team against two other national teams and to give an opportunity for us to train together during the tour. Secondly, the tour is to support the rugby league development work currently going on in Canada. The competition in Canada is starting to flourish and the British Police hope to encourage the game to grow especially with the recent introduction of Toronto Wolfpack into league 1.
The British Police Rugby League Association (BPRLA) was formed in 1991. At that time there were only a small number of police teams competing in England and the game was firmly in its developmental stages. Since the early 1990’s players and staff have put in a tremendous amount of hard work developing the Police game.
In 2010 the British Police were accepted in to the most prestigious and high profile rugby league competition in England, the Challenge Cup which involves a number of high profile amateur and professional rugby league clubs from England and France. This was a tremendous achievement and acknowledgement of all the hard work the British Police has done over recent years.
The success of the tour to Canada is dependent on each individual player and staff member generating the funds needed to make the tour possible. In order for me to secure my place I am required to raise a minimum of £750 for the British Police Rugby League Association. This will cover the cost of flights, accommodation, kit, corporate clothing and any other associated running costs.
