Camps International expedition-Peru

Aim

4 Week expedition to Peru including Trekking, community, wildlife and environmental project work.

In the summer of 2018 I will be heading out on a 4 week expedition across Peru with the aim of enhancing the lives of the people living in the small communities of Peru. 54% of the small communities in Peru live beneath the poverty line so the introduction of things such as running water are a great way to combat this. 33% of under 15 year olds in Peru are employed rather than at school which can be helped by introducing schools into the small communities. 18% of the people in Peru are malnourished lacking fresh fruit and vegetables which we aim to help by building things such as community greenhouses to provide year round food.

 The aim of the project is to help the rural communities of Peru through local projects within the communities. This happens within 6 main fields:

• Education e.g. building schools, classrooms or kindergartens.
• Housing e.g. constructing vitally needed community housing using local materials.
• Healthcare & sanitation e.g. installing local amenities.
• Food & water security e.g. creating community greenhouses to provide year round food.
• Environmental protection e.g. replanting indigenous plants.
• Sustainable livelihoods e.g. digging irrigation channels to bring water from the mountains to farms and houses.

Any projects that are started by Camps International whilst out on expeditions are always finished by people on later expeditions so the job is never left open.

The expedition also includes a 5 day trek up the Salkantay trail through the Andes to the famed ruins of Machu Picchu.
