Calverley Cricket Club is a well-established club based in Leeds. Our roots can be traced back to 1843 and the club has been playing at its current location of Victoria Park, in the heart of the village, since 1864. The club is very much at the centre of the community with the clubhouse being used by a variety of community groups and for functions throughout the year as well as being open to everyone on match days.
We want to ensure that this vital community asset can continue in the future by investing in and improving our facilities for cricket and other sports and for the benefit of the whole Calverley community.
As with sports clubs up and down the country COVID-19 hit our finances hard, with events not being allowed to take place and bar takings significantly down on previous years. This reduced income has left us struggling to fund our core cricket activities let alone invest in our clubhouse or training equipment. With an aging clubhouse that has proved to be not fit for purpose during the pandemic and vital training equipment on its last legs we are looking to fundraise to ensure our financial security and to continue our clubs improvement plan.
- Creating Space - Demolish unused rooms
- Modular Furniture - Replace fixed seating with movable furniture
- Fix the Roof and Ceiling - Fix the holes and repair water damage
- New Carpet - Replace carpet tiles and carpet newly created areas
- New Nets - Replace old style nets with a concertina net
We refurbished the old council toilets connected to the clubhouse a few years ago, this made the ladies toilet within the clubhouse redundant and it is now an unused space. Demolishing this and relocating the cold store next to the bar will create a much bigger seating area for everyone to enjoy. An added benefit of this is that it will make it a lot easier for us to comply with any potential future restrictions imposed on us due to COVID.
The below shows the unused space.
All the space below will be demolished and become a usable seating area.
Much of the usable space in the club is currently taken up by fixed booths. This makes it very difficult for certain community groups to use the clubhouse as there is no flexibility in the layout. We want to remove this seating and replace it with movable modular furniture that can be rearranged to suit the variety of community groups that currently use the club and also to attract other groups to use it as well.
There are several leaks in the roof due to broken roof tiles, rotten fascias/soffits and a very old flat roof. These leaks are causing damp and water damage to the inside of the club. We want to repair the roof and install a new suspended ceiling in the clubhouse as well as repairing the water damage.
The existing carpet tiles are way past their best and urgently require replacing. Coupled with the new space created from the toilet being demolished and the booths being replaced new carpet will be required throughout the clubhouse.
Cricket Nets are the staple of any cricket club. Many private grounds are fortunate enough to be able to install a dedicated training facility, unfortunately due to our location in a public park we are unable to do this. Our current nets are no longer fit for purpose and have several holes in the netting that are held together with cable ties where possible! We want to replace these nets with a new concertina net that can be set up in minutes compared to the significant time it currently takes which eats into the valuable time our dedicated volunteers currently give us.

Club Vision
As a club our long term aim is to have a 1st XI made up of players who have all played junior cricket for the club and who are capable of competing in the 1st division of the Airedale & Wharfedale Senior Cricket League. Our current junior section is thriving and we have a number of players on the Yorkshire Pathways. We are passionate about developing our junior talent further and are excited to see their progression into senior cricket.
Please Help Us
We are engaging with the local community to assist us with our fundraising goals and have a number of members who have come forward to volunteer their help. In addition we already have support from an ever growing number of local businesses who have pledged rewards for our Crowdfunder.
We are working hard to raise as much as possible and your help would really be appreciated to give us that extra push to realising our vision of transforming our clubhouse into an asset that the whole community can really be proud of.
Many Thanks
