Raising money to help us fight to elect Callum Anderson as the MP for South West Bedfordshire
Hello!
My name is Callum Anderson and I'm standing as Labour's candidate to be the MP for South West Bedfordshire.
I grew up in the constituency (central Dunstable) and went to the local state schools.
Public services such as Dunstable Library, local GPs and dentists, as well as community facilities like Dunstable Leisure Centre were a lifeline to kids like me and gave me the hand up I needed to realise my full potential.
Indeed, thanks to those public services, I've had opportunity to study in Birmingham and Berlin, and work for an EU institution in Brussels and build a public service career in London.
My roots remain here. My family and school friends still live across the constituency and are at different stages of their lives: retired, young professionals early on in their career, and young families trying to build a secure future for their kids.
That's why I want those opportunities to aspire, achieve and succeed to be available to every single person in South West Bedfordshire - regardless of where they come from, who their parents or what they look like.
I've watched with dismay at the devastating impact that Tory austerity has had on our communities' lives: be it the bedroom tax or the welfare cap, the £48m cuts to our schools, or the 10% reduction in police officers. And that's before you get to the dearth of affordable housing, the cuts to local bus routes and the increasing fragility of our NHS.
My community - our community - deserves so much better.
So I've decided to do something about it: by standing as a Member of Parliament. Because, despite the mudslinging and the abuse you see in politics, I still consider it to be a noble pursuit that can be a positive agent for change.
To be able to represent and stand up for the area I grew up in would be the honour of my life.
But before I can do that, I need to defeat my Conservative opponent, who will undoubtedly be backed by wealthy donors. So to be able to hold him to account effectively, I will need resources. Not just volunteers' time and effort, but also donations. Unfortunately democracy costs money!
So I'd be eternally gratefully for any money you can spare to help me.
Thank you!
